The Imal Initiative for Climate and Development was pleased to co-convene the first working meeting of the Mediterranean Alliance of Think-Tanks on Climate Change (MATTCCh), which aims to convene think-tanks whose work responds to the severe climate-related challenges facing the Mediterranean region.
This Alliance was originally established by the 2023 MedCOP, which took place in Tangier, Morocco, co-hosted by the Regional Council for Tangier-Tetouan-Alhoceima (Conseil de la Région Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima) under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohamed VI. The Imal Initiative for Climate and Development was pleased to accept a request to operationalize this Alliance.
Last week's convening was co-organized in partnership with specialist think-tanks ECCO think tank (from Italy) and Sürdürülebilir Ekonomi ve Finans Araştırmaları Derneği (SEFiA) (from Turkiye) and held in hybrid format for both virtual and in-person participants on the margins of the Green Week of the Union for the Mediterranean (receiving official acknowledgment from the Union for the Mediterranean, here).
The event saw participation by over 20 representatives of 18 leading think tanks.
The organizers had the opportunity to present the Alliance to government officials and others in attendance at the Union for the Mediterranean's Green Week, highlighting key points of discussion from the convening across the Alliance's thematic areas of work, covering all areas of climate policy and the means of implementation.
Members of the Alliance look forward to enhancing regional engagement, improving the knowledge-policy interface to move from talk to action, and strengthening Mediterranean climate cooperation to adequately respond to the growing challenges faced today.
